Montessori Preschool
In a Montessori classroom children are free to choose their own work according to their individual interests and abilities, to discover through hands on explorations of manipulative materials. When you visit, you may hear the phrase “grace and courtesy.”
This is more than manners: it’s all of the activities that facilitate successful social and life skills. Through grace and courtesy, Kauai Montessori Preschool creates an environment where helping, caring and responsibility develop naturally and appropriately.
Our staff of caring professionals gently guide the child on their path of growth and development, being the dynamic link between the child and the environment. The classroom environment is carefully set up, everything has a purpose: all of the materials selected help the child to develop a foundation for future learning and growth.

inter-session Child Care
Children find learning in a Montessori environment comfortable, enjoyable and engaging. We differ greatly from a typical child care facility. The materials are designed to be motivating and compatible with how the brain works at each age.
Children are naturally curious and inclined toward self-management; these characteristics are fostered in a Montessori classroom. The inter-session program is designed to allow children to gently flow in and out, choosing works according to their individual interests and abilities.
Our inter-session program is scheduled with a three hour minimum, as Dr. Montessori believed that children need a three hour work cycle to fully engage and explore their interests. Perfect for when your child is on break during the school year or summer!

The story of how
Montessori Developed
Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952) developed her approach to learning out of keen observations of children, she believed that education should be based on a child’s needs during sensitive periods of development. she was motivated by her desire to create a more peaceful world by nurturing the spirit of each child. The core tenets of her philosophy emphasize order, concentration, control of movement, independence, self discipline and respect for others.
